We were handing out this promo card at the New York Comic-Con last weekend, so I guess the cat is out of the bag. Just like the first volume from Fox Atomic Comics and Harper Collins, I've written two stories based on the works of Thomas Ligotti:
"Gas Station Carnivals" with Vasilis Lolos illustrating and "The Clown Puppet" with the legendary Bill Sienkiewicz!
I'm very excited for this book's release. The first volume of THE NIGHTMARE FACTORY was beautiful and I learned a lot while making it. This new collection is going to be top-shelf fucking stellar.
Check out my friend Tamra's spot she made for MoveOn.org's "Obama in 30 Seconds" ad competition. She's been making great docs for a while now, won the documentary grand prize at last year's Berlin Film Festival and has been my friend for a long time:
I think, considering the demographic split between Obama's and Senator Clinton's support among Democrats and the general, well, generality most of the spots on the MoveOn site seem to convey, this is top-notch.
Sat. 4/19 -- New York Comic-Con "The Nightmare Factory" Signing
New books! The new Previews for July have been released and my new Batman book is listed. We're spotlighting SCARECROW in a special BATMAN "fifth week" event. Super-talented artist Juan Doe and I present a horrific take on the Master of Fear, blending everything I love about both 80s slasher films and 80s teen movies like HEATHERS and THE BREAKFAST CLUB into one twisted tale examining Queen Bees, slumber parties, masked maniacs and the nature of fear.
From the Diamond Solicits:
I'm really pleased with how this book has turned out...
I'm going to be attending the hometown convention this weekend at the Jacob Javits Center here in New York City.
We'll be promoting THE NIGHTMARE FACTORY with a signing at the Fox Atomic Comics booth. I'll post the time later this week.
I'm also hopeful we'll be able to make a very, very cool announcement regarding a VOLUME TWO... as well as who my esteemed and talented collaborators are.
Indiana Jones and the Chronic -- Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf Baked Out During Shooting
Moved by the fortieth anniversary of Dr. King's death, I've been reading more about the end of his life, after "I have a dream" and the moments that would come to transcend class and race with a sense of shared history and the belief that the right thing happened for this country as a whole.
This speech on his opposition to the war in Vietnam is staggering, sobering and incredibly off the rails with the cuddly narrative mainstream history has fed us. As I understand it, following this incendiary and blinding speech, King's popularity nosedived. The romance with white America and the media withered with accusations of un-Americanism. He'd be shot dead in Memphis not long afterward.
Chillingly topical and as brave a statement as I've ever heard.
2008 comes out of the gate according to plan. The final season played at baseball's grand Cathedral opened with timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, incredible fielding by the most-underrated firecracker centerfielder in the game, a strong start by Wang and a slam the door in your face closeout by the best bullpen in baseball.
In other news, Pedro Martinez wastes no time proving me right. Neither the Mets nor the Red Sox are making the playoffs this year. You heard it here first.
